John Mason had a thriving business in Jordan, Ontario for 20 years before he semi-retired and moved to the Maritimes. He is a fourth generation ornamental blacksmith with 55+ years in the metal crafting business. He’s traveled and worked in19 countries learning different styles and techniques in blacksmith shops while focusing on Baroque design.

Together with his partner, Jayne Geldart, John repurposed a building from the Lunenburg Foundry at their home in Blandford several years ago, creating a forge shop at home. John practices the long-standing tradition of coal-fired forging. John primarily does the designing and building, but he and Jayne collaborate on some projects, and she handles administration and customer service.

The artists make custom furnishings for home and garden, using steel, glass, wood and stone in their creations. Designs range from door knockers, birds, and roses to larger functional items like beds, pot racks, gates, and tables. The steel is all Canadian made, and John and Jayne will also use old oil tanks and scrap metal when available.

After attending Expo as customers in the past, Jayne says they are very excited to be vendors this year. “We enjoy meeting new customers and hearing about what projects they may have in mind. And we are excited about the items we will have with us; we feel they will exhibit the diversity of styles we can offer.” We’re looking forward to seeing John and Jayne at Expo!
