Embrace your inner Celt with Heather Knight’s fabulous apparel and giftware. Based in Mt. Uniacke, Heather produces two lines: Tartan clothing and giftware for wholesale/retail and women’s fashion for retail.

She has been in business for 23 years, “since coming to the realization that I was a terrible employee and decided not to impose myself on any more employers.”

Most of the year Heather wholesales as she is one of the largest producers of tartan products for the tourist industry. She doesn’t attend any wholesale trade shows because she’s fully booked with her clients now. She does, however, attend a few select retail shows each year where she focuses on the very popular women’s fashion line.

“Living in Atlantic Canada has had a great influence on our product line,” she says. “I joke that I work in tartan because the NS government does all my advertising. The influence of Celtic culture is reflected in almost everything we make. The tartan connection, obviously, and our women’s clothing reflects Celtic culture in the choice of fabrics (tartan, tweeds, wools), the use of Celtic motifs in the embroidery, and just the fact that it is made to be fun and not take itself too seriously.”

Heather goes on, “Atlantic Canada is my business and my life. Our product evoled here and is so influenced by this place that even when I sell it outside the region it is because it’s from Atlantic Canada.

Heather’s best sellers including the Wee Kilted Dress, featuring a traditional fringed apron and kilt pin, giving it the look of a hilt but is easier to wear and care for. The buttons are made exclusively for the company by Aitkens Pewter. Heather says, “Our best selling fashion item is the versatile Button Shawl. There are endless ways to wear it: you can dress it up for a night on the town, or wear it casual to the pub or park.”

Heather is looking forward to her first Expo with us because it will bring people to her that she would otherwise not get a chance to meet. Do check out her handmade delights when you visit the show!
