Body Honour began 7 years ago under a different name, Soft Kitty. Shannon Shields says her focus was on women’s health and reusable cloth pads, her operation began in the back office of her Family Natural Parenting Retail Store, which has since been closed. With demand growing, and the introduction of new products and diversification of what Shannon calls her tribe of followers, Soft Kitty became Body Honour in early 2017.

Shannon focuses on creating functional and beautiful cloth alternatives to common household single-use plastics. Her two best-selling products are Cloth Pads and Panty Liners, and Beeswax Food Wraps. She also make reusable produce bags, cutlery rolls/napkins, and wet bags, among other things.

Shannon is a huge Shop Local advocate—this ranks high on her personal list of core values, she says. “All of the fabrics used are purchased at local fabric stores. Our beeswax is 100 per cent produced by Nova Scotia bees, we purchase from a number of local beekeepers. Our helpers are local stay at home moms, who are able to work from home on hours that work best for them.”

Of course, the Saltscapes Expo aligns with this value in every way. And Shannon says, “I have always attended the Saltscapes expos as a shopper, and I am thrilled to be accepted into the community of vendors so that I can also showcase our business to likeminded Atlantic Canadians. The closer our community gets the better we will all be!”

Of the Body Honour products, Shannon says her bestseller is the beeswax wraps, but “our favourite product is our cloth pads. They are a life-changing discovery to most of our customers. The benefits to personal health and the health of the planet are great, as they reduce our bodies exposure to harmful chemicals, not regulated by government in garbage pads, and of course, save thousands of garbage pads from landfills each year!”
