Authentic Seacoast Company
Glynn Williams started out his businesses focusing on hospitality and tourism, developing DesBarres Manor Inn as a romantic hotel, the Rare Bird Pub as a topnotch craft beer destination, among other developments, all to help out the Guysborough area. In recent years, Authentic Seacoast Company has become best known for restoring Nova Scotia’s centuries-old rum trading history, with development of the Fortress and Sea Fever rums, and also celebrating Guysborough’s proud trading history with the Full Steam coffee. Glynn is proud to say that the company’s products are sold across the Maritimes and other regions of Canada.
Last year at Saltscapes Expo, Authentic Seacoast introduced thousands of visitors to Fortress Rum, in partnership with their Parks Canada friends, who told the story about Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, where Glynn’s company matures the rum. He says, “with the opening of our new, much-expanded distillery/brewery on the historic Guysborough harbor, 2016 is the year to visit us on the Authentic Seacoast. We’re looking forward to giving people a taste of what’s to come when they vacation with us this year.”
What’s Glynn’s favourite product? Glynnevan Whisky, which is a tribute to his son Evan, “a new Canadian tradition that we’re proud to share with people.” Glynnevan was a recent winner at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and was introduced to Saltscapes enthusiasts at our 2015 Harvest Greets the Holidays event in Masstown.
The company’s most popular product is their Fortress Rum, which was named Nova Scotia’s Spirit of the Year for 2015. As Glynn puts it, “Rum is in the DNA of Nova Scotians and Fortress Rum captures the passion people have for this favourite drink.” We agree, and raise a glass to Authentic Seacoast—as you can do, too, at Saltscapes Expo!
